SOUTHERN 80

The Southern 80 has always had the reputation of putting man and machine to the test and this certainly proved true when 'No Issues' blew the gears in the leg while having a shake down run on Thur arfternoon. Luckily Steve had a spare leg care of his new boat (ex 6lt Sting) and after a quick swap the guys were back on the water. The only problem was the new leg ran different gears which required the guys scouring local teams and shops to find a suitable prop. It was 7pm Fri night when the guys were satisfied they could race.

Sat morning the guys lined up at 5 mile for the start of 60mph social and although the start was a little slow the guys got away cleanly. Being short course the race was a sprint to Vic Park with the guys coming home in 11:39s. This time was good enough for a 5th place and to everyones credit only 20 seconds seperated the first 5 boats.

Due to the boating tragedy at Deep Creek on Saturday afternoon Sundays racing was shortened with the guys now starting at Deep Creek marina. Unfortunately this race wasnt so incident free with both Steve and Jeremy blowing a start each and losing about 7min off the start. It seemed like the old girl just didnt have the pull to get them out but after getting away finally the guys all put their heads down for a blistering run racing into Vic Park in 39:09s for a dissapointing 22nd position out of 44.
